In can making, line speed equals profit, and traditional round ram designs tend to limit the speed of the necking operation. Operating heavy, steel rams at high speeds can also trigger high centrifugal forces that can accelerate wear.

Compared to steel cam followers, Power-Core™ polymer cam followers reduce the weight of the ram, preventing the rams from wearing out prematurely.
The move to lighter-weight material significantly increases cycle times.
In one application that uses our cam follower ram redesign, necker cycle times have increased on average by 12 to 15 percent on older machines. On new neckers, the ram has enabled operation at or near design speeds.
The lighter weight reduces shock and vibration, which usually represents an important speed constraint in rotating machines.
Cutting mass on the ram that would otherwise have to be accelerated and decelerated can lower necker energy consumption.
